Mamzell...She Does Exist!

Many fans have asked me about Mamzell, the cat introduced in "Maggie's Story." I'm happy to say, she really does exist! She is my faithful companion, my shadow, my cuddle partner. With the creation of this blog I figured she needed a new title, too. Please allow me to introduce Mamzell, my Executive Director.

Some fans have also asked me about her name. Long story short, her name was supposed to be Mademoiselle and her brother's name was supposed to be Monsieur. My dearest Other Half, however, could neither pronounce nor properly spell these two names. Therefore, I had to come up with names that still rang true for them, but that wouldn't trip up the Other Half...or the receptionist at the vet's office. So Mamzell and Mister were reborn. We adopted them from an animal shelter in Saint Cloud, MN. Their previous owner had surrendered them at about ten weeks of age, along with their mother.

The best description for Mamzell is Nitroglycerin. She comes in a tiny little package and delivers a disproportionate bang for her size. She rules the roost and fears nothing. Her brother, on the other paw, is built like a cinder block, and weighs almost as much. His personality is that of the Gentle Giant. If he were any more laidback he would be mistaken for a footstool.

Writing the scene with Mamzell stealing Maggie's crochet hook, and running off for a game of find-me-if-you-can, is very much a part of her real character. She loves to carry things off and have someone, preferably me, hunt it down and play fetch with her. Her favorite items are milk rings and cotton swabs.

Having such a creature dependent on me has made me realize I need to take better care of myself. I want to be around as long as possible to enjoy as many years as possible with her. Cats, for me, represent unconditional love. They ask only that you don't hurt them. That is no different than what we humans want, right? I'm also convinced that all cats remember that we humans used to worship them as gods in ancient times and they are just waiting for that time to roll back around again. If bell-bottoms can make a come-back, they figure anything is possible!

Thank you for reading my first entry on The Road to a Dream. Please feel free to leave a post with your thoughts and/or feedback; I love hearing from fans! Have you come to realize a dream later in your life than you expected, too? If so, I would love to hear about it.

  1. Dreams never get old, do they? And we're never too old to realize them. Mine is to help animals through my art, and I've been dibbling and dabbing for a few years now on exactly how to do that. Finally, I'm taking my Etsy shop seriously and am meeting with some success. Sometimes it's hard to let go of pieces that I've made and love, but it feels so good to write the checks to Idaho Black Bear Rehab and Fat Kitty City. I am fortunate to be able to give 100% of my sales proceeds to those charities.

    My best to you, Stephanie!
